Rest and Recharge

It’s been a minute since I posted, and also since I traveled. In that time I’ve been reflecting and reconnecting with home. Two days after returning from my last trip my body started to tell me it was time to slow down. I spent that first weekend home mostly sleeping as I recovered from Covid. It was a great reminder that even without illness, we need to take time to rest.
I’m not sure about you, but as an Event Planner, my work trips are almost always go-go-go, working from sunrise to well past sunset. When I get home, there’s always the emails that got put off while onsite, the laundry, the garden, and everything else I need to get done around the house. It can be all consuming, but even and ADHD brain like mine that thrives on deadlines and being busy, needs a rest.
So this post is my reminder to all you road warriors, workaholics, and busy bees, (and myself) to stop and breathe. Rot on the couch for an afternoon without feeling guilty- those dirty dishes aren’t going anywhere. Throw the ball with your dog, wander your favorite store (mine is any thrift store), hit the gym, or just do whatever little thing makes you happy.
I try to take advantage of airport time on the trip home to follow up on truly urgent emails and tasks that were on the back burner while away. This allows me to take even just a half day to recharge when I return, before hitting the ground running again. The tiny breather allows me to show up more efficiently, more effectively, and more productively when I log back in.
A lot of what I share here is about making the most of the actual travel, but the in-between time can be just as important. I have another month before my next scheduled trip, and I’d love to hear how you make the most of the time home between travel.
