That Time I Forgot Hairspray

We've all been there. You put everything in your bag except that one toiletry item. If it's toothpaste, or a toothbrush, chances are the hotel can help you out. But, if you forgot hairspray because you rarely use it, but you're running an event that requires a very solid updo (as seen in my photo here), you may find yourself at the overpriced "convenience" store on property. Did I pay $8+ for a travel size can of Rave? I plead the fifth. Did I also go a week at home without using my moisturizer because I had packed (but not unpacked yet) my only container? Maybe.

I now have a toiletry bag that lives in my suitcase at all times. It moves between checked and carry on, but always in a suitcase. It contains the following:

  • Full size deodorant- because the travel size dry out too quickly, and full is still carry on sized.

  • Travel tubs of all my moisturizers and hair products- I try to keep and refill sample sizes if I have them, but these are great too! I like these silicone ones for shampoo.

  • Travel sizes of items I don't use everyday, but want to have on hand like hairspray, hand cream, and setting spray.

  • Travel sized toothpaste, and I throw a second one in there once it gets low. I'm thinking about switching to the tabs like these though.

  • A couple of hair ties, bobby pins, and safety pins.

  • Essential makeup- A small pallet and mascara. Basically enough to look presentable should I forget to pack my full makeup bag.

  • Shower cap- 90% of hotels have these, but it's my luck that they have a rainfall showerhead and no shower cap. Plus, mine is way cuter!

  • Loop Quiet Earplugs

  • Band-Aids

  • Venus Mini razor and shaving cream. Ask me about the time I almost needed stitches in Hawaii because the cap on my old razor fell off and I reached into my toiletry bag blindly.

I'll pack a second toiletry bag for things I need on a specific trip like additional makeup, big bottle of sunscreen, etc., but with my always with me bag, I won't find myself scrambling to find something at a resort or at 1am when I just landed and don't have a car. Am I missing anything? Let me know what's in your bag!
